Earlier people did not require the intake of vitamin or mineral supplements as it was well included in their diet but with the change in the food habit people became more prone to crippling degenerative diseases. Earlier fruits and vegetables proved to be good source of vitamins and minerals as they were locally produced and were harvested at the right time.
The soil was also fortified with manure instead of chemicals, making them completely nutrients. As a result, fruits and vegetables were the ideal source of vitamins and minerals and were considered as a completely nutritious food. But today farmers often use artificial and synthetic pesticides that result in loss of nutrients in the fruits and vegetables thus leading to the intake of additional vitamins and mineral requirements.
Today most of the fruits and vegetables we eat are not grown locally but it is brought from different state or country and usually they are harvested long before they ripe and in order to increase their longevity they are dosed with chemicals. This leads to the loss of essential nutrients from them.
Soil depletion is another problem faced by the farmers as fruits and vegetables get essential nutrients from soil and the bad quality soil results in poor nutritional food. With these problems of farmer people find missing vital vitamins and minerals from their regular diet. As vitamins and minerals play an important role in the proper functioning of the body organs. Different vitamins and minerals are required for specific part of the body to ensure healthy grow of the part. Like calcium is an important mineral, which is a must for the healthy growth of the bones and deficiency of calcium can result in several one diseases.
This is a fact that even if a person eats a healthy diet, he may still require additional nutrients due to the above stated reason. This additional requirements of mineral and vitamins can be well taken in the form of supplements, which are generally made from rocks, petrochemicals, and corn syrup.
Nutritional supplements are also made from real food by removing water from it, like raisins have all the nutrients of grape except for water. However food-based nutritional supplements are often preferred as they comprises of real vitamins and minerals. Nutritional supplements prove to be a reliable and secure means of providing body with all the necessary nutrients so that the blood quality is improved. Along with nutritional supplements one should also have balanced diet comprising of real food and should avoid junk foods that hardly have any nutrition.
